Human Resources Manager

Position Summary

Newkirk Electric is seeking a full-time Human Resources Manager to join our team. Responsibilities include: Serving as the primary point person for employees (100+ non-union, 400+ union) with regards to HR issues, questions and concerns.  Recruiting, onboarding and background checks for new employees.  Administering all company benefits, FMLA, and other government regulations/requirements.  Maintaining employee handbooks and policies.  Recordkeeping of compensation, vacation/personal time, training, and employee feedback records.  Performing HR investigations and assisting Managers with performance feedback and disciplinary action processes.

Primary Job Duties

  • Work with Hiring Managers to identify staffing needs, recruit/write and post ads, interview, perform necessary background/reference checks (e.g. MVR, Drug Testing, etc.), determine and track driver eligibility, and prepare job offers. 
  • Manage onboarding (orientation, training, paperwork, compliance, asset assignments, etc.) of new employees.
  • Administration of Employee Benefits:  Health Insurance, 401(k) elections, Life Insurance, Flex Spending Accounts, Supplemental insurance and Wellness plans.  Manage FMLA leaves.
  • Work with Management to develop and update company policies.  Maintain and distribute employee handbooks and policy documents.
  • Contribute to the Employee Newsletter editorial team.
  • Write and distribute HR Updates (HR e-Bulletin) for employees detailing open enrollment, benefits, or policies.
  • Assist in coordination of company events.
  • Complete the termination process for non-craft employees (e.g. exit interviews, asset recovery, benefits status, etc.)
  • Manage HR/Marketing Assistant to assist in all of the above. 
  • Work with Payroll and Managers to approve, track and report on employee vacation and personal time use.
  • Maintain Employee Personnel Files and compliance for I9 Forms.
  • Manage background checks for current employees per customer requirements.
  • Interface with Managers to develop and maintain job descriptions.
  • Track employee Feedback Meetings for Managers.
  • Assist Managers with training assessments, development, and documentation for employees.
  • Complete necessary end of year reporting (premium reports for W2, 1095C form)

 Job Requirements

  • Degree in Human Resources or at least 5 years’ experience as Human Resources Generalist.
  • Experience with and high proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication (listening and speaking) skills.
  • High degree of confidentiality, ethics, professionalism, concern for others, accuracy, teamwork, urgency.
  • Have positive attitude, be a problem solver, be detailed and organized in planning and prioritizing work.
  • Work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting and with computers.  Frequent need to stand, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during workday.
