Newkirk provided construction for the complete power, lighting, and communications systems of the original five housing units in this Muskegon-area state prison complex. As this was the first application of a completely new prison design, and drawings did not indicate electrical installation, Newkirk developed an original plan and other unique methods for supplying power and lighting to the cell block facilities.
