Project Overview
Newkirk provided design and construction services for this project including relocation/construction/upgrades for a 345/138kV substation, and relocation/conversion of the overhead power lines to underground lines to allow space for an airport expansion. Specifically, the team converted the existing 345/138kV substation to 138kV switchyard, and constructed new 345/138kV substation. Included were, design-build of relay panels for the substation and removal of 30 steel monopoles and foundations over 5.5 miles and installing 1.75 miles of 138kV underground cable in a 6" PVC duct bank. The project was completed 1 1/2 months ahead of schedule.
