Payroll Specialist - Muskegon, MI
Position Summary
Newkirk Electric is looking for a full-time Payroll Specialist to join our accounting team. Responsibilities include timely and accurately processing of a weekly job-costed, multi-division and multi-state payroll for 650+ employees.
Job Duties
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll through data entry and electronic transferring of timecards
- Verify payroll by matching employee hours to time sheets
- Assist with the preparation of union reports
- Assist with the preparation and filing of monthly, quarterly and year end payroll and tax reports
- Scan/index appropriate documents in OnBase
- Update union wage and fringe spreadsheets for estimating and project management support
- Help to maintain employee records including deductions, raises, address changes, and terminations
- Review and maintain unemployment claims for multiple states. Report unemployment information for determination of unemployment compensation
- Assist with various reporting for certified payrolls, new hires, terminations
- Understand and comply with payroll laws, regulations, and union contracts
Job Requirements
- 2+ years of payroll experience with multi-state, multi-entity, and unions
- Associate degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience
- Strong computer skills in Excel. Experience preferred in accounting software (COINS), electronic filing software (currently OnBase), electronic timesheets Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High degree of integrity, ethics, teamwork, cooperation and confidentiality
